About the Artwork
An Old UAZ Van Below the Peaks
An olive-green van sits on dry golden grass with its side door hanging open, as if the driver has just stepped out. Old stencilled numbers still show on the back doors under a layer of dust. Above it, a jagged wall of grey rock climbs into cloud, with snow lying in the gullies.
Taken in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan. The van is a UAZ-452, the boxy Soviet four-wheel-drive known as the bukhanka, or ‘loaf’.
This is a documentary travel photograph. Olive, gold and grey keep it earthy, so it makes a good gift for anyone into old vehicles or overland travel. Printed on lustre paper from A5 up to A2.
