About the Photograph
Atacama Desert, Chile: Black and White Road to a Vanishing Point
A straight road runs through the Atacama Desert and out of sight, with a white dashed line down the middle and solid lines at each edge. Stony, flat ground stretches away on both sides, and a few low mountains are just visible on the horizon.
The sky is almost black, which makes the road and the pale desert floor glow against it. It is a stark, high-contrast image with a real sense of distance, and the tyre marks on the tarmac stay sharp at larger sizes.
